Had some time while getting tires put on my truck so I decided to venture down to the Prairie House Cafe. one of the best decisions I've ever made. I ordered a plain cheeseburger and fried Okra. mind you I've eaten thousands of cheeseburgers all over this country and have owned my own scratch restaurant and I will tell you, I just had the absolute best burger I have ever had. I literally didn't want it to end. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly and served on a gently toasted buttered bun. I finished it 15 minutes ago and my mouth is still watering! Do yourself a favor and make the trip to this little gem of a place!!!
FOOD: I love going here because anything you get is going to be good. We typically go for breakfast but have been back for a lunch or dinner. The pancakes are rather large and the Miles Stack is an absolute favorite!! SERVICE: For the most part, the service is typically good. There have been times we have had to wait an abnormally long time. I have spent 2 hrs there between waiting for service and food to be cooked. That doesn’t happen often as you can see we keep going back. ATMOSPHERE: The city of Leon is super small and rather old. Prairie House has that old feel to it as well. Super clean and quaint place that’s always fun to go back to.
We stopped in for breakfast after our Thanksgiving trip to see family. The proprietor and wait staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was hot, fresh, and homemade. My daughter and I had the biscuits with a generous dollop of sausage gravy ladled over the top. My husband had the substantial breakfast burrito, but the real star was the made from scratch salsa. It was delicious! The proprietor told us about Mexican food and we’re disappointed that we’ll miss out on the food and fun. It’s a little off the beaten path, but 100% worth it!!!
Great food, bit of a wait for it to come out. But consistently good food.
Another hidden gem of a restaurant in Kansas. We had breakfast and everything was fresh prepared and to perfection. We had to try a piece of pie also, amazing flavor. Again, made right there. We will go again in the evening sometime and try their steaks, menu looked like it would take care of all sorts of cravings.
A little treat I recommend everyone who travels the 400 enjoy sometime. Maybe one of the best pork tender samiches I've yet had.
Good day, and As for this place and it's five star rating. Let's get started. 1. Location, amazing and historical too. The building isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Parking is what you want to see in a small town. 2. Staff, I swear they were amazing, fast, and could describe the food to the letter. I'm going back if for no other reason, the staff. Warn and welcoming. 3. Food, the reason we stopped. Let's just say your grandma is in the back cooking. With that said, the portions are huge, and you honestly won't leave hungry. If you manage to leave hungry it's because you didn't eat all your food. 4. Price, you will not find cheaper of a price with the quality of an upscale restaurant. You can dine in or carry out, but I would recommend dining in and just enjoying Americana while crushing some fabulous pancakes. I hope you enjoy your stop and remember to tip well. Cheers,
